About Us

The Georgia Strait Big Band is proud to continue the tradition of Big Band music in the Comox Valley, which dates back over 60 years, when folks danced the night away at the Native Sons Hall on Saturday nights.

Our current Big Band started 4 years ago, under the direction of Don Mackay. After 2 years of excellent leadership, Don was succeeded our current director Gregory Bush, Professor of Jazz at Vancouver Island University, who incidentally, drives every Monday night from his home in Nanaimo, to lead our Band.

Greg’s passion for Jazz is shared by all the members of our Band, which includes vocalists Jenn Forsland and Sue Medley.

Experience the high energy sounds of our Big Band by attending one of our gigs OR hiring the Georgia Strait Big Band for your next event.
